Fraud prevention

From phishing, to money mules, to trojan emails there are various ways in which a fraudster might try to gain access to your personal and security details. Some of the most common scams are listed below along with some tips for avoiding them!

 Phishing/scam emails
You may receive e-mails pretending to be from Ivobank asking you to confirm information such as bank account, user identification details or passwords. Do not respond to these emails or visit any website linked from it. We will never email you to ask you to confirm your password or PIN.

 Trojan emails
Trojans are usually emails that contain files, pages or attachments to open. Once opened, they can secretly install a program that monitors your online activity, down to what keys you're pushing on what page. This means the next time you enter your credit card details online, the fraudsters will be alerted and may be able to steal your account details - a good reason to use your Ivobank Virtual Card instead.

To keep your computer safe from Trojans never open attachments or files sent to you or click on links unless you know they are safe. Immediately delete emails with unknown attachments or links.

 Money mule/additional income email scam
A current scam involves someone offering, via an email or website, to pay funds into your account on the understanding you then transfer them overseas. In return, you supposedly receive a commission.

Many of these scams involve the proceeds of crime and you should ignore the request. Any customer that participates will become involved in a police investigation and we could close any account involved in this scam. Remember: If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

 Advanced fee fraud ('419' scams)
These are emails promising large cash pay-outs in exchange for a small advance payment. The emails may appear to come from large banks, governments or lottery funds. Do not respond to the email or visit any website linked from it. Remember: If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

 Spoof websites
Beware of fraudsters who create authentic looking websites, these are called 'spoof websites'. These sites are designed to encourage customers to enter personal details such as passwords and memorable information. This information will then be re-used to access your bank accounts. You can also look for the 'Verified by Visa and VeriSign' logos at the bottom of the page. Take a look at our Security tips page for helpful information.

 Suspicious phone calls
Beware of receiving unexpected telephone calls from individuals claiming to be from an Ivobank where a caller will try to persuade you to give information about your account details. Ivobank will never call you to ask for any security information about your account. If you suspect the caller is not a genuine Ivobank employee, tell them you will call them back through the Ivobank contact centre telephone numbers.
